Sailing Club

Sailing

Sailing on the Mere can be enjoyed throughout the week. Racing takes place on Sunday throughout the year and Wednesday evenings during the Summer. Social sailing takes place on a Monday evening during the Summer. Other special in-house events such as an Easter Day Race, Boxing Day Brass Monkey, New Years Day Race, Single-handed and Two-handed Regattas, and Junior Regatta take place during the season.

Classes with fleet status are Laser 4.7, Solo, Enterprise, Laser Radial, National 12, Laser and Optimist. Other classes can sail at the discretion of the sailing committee. Open meetings for Enterprise and National 12 are held at the club.

Training

Coaching for the young members of the club takes place before Sunday racing in the summer, and after racing during the autumn and winter. This involves both land-based theory and on-the-water drills.

Younger members are able to take part in optimist training. The optimist training times are available in the sailing programme.

‘Desperate Housewives’ can also sign up for training sessions. These laid-back sessions are open the wives and mums of the club. No previous sailing experience required. See Matt French for details.

Visiting coaches from Laser and the National Twelve Owners’ Association also hold sessions at the club throughout the year.
